PASSPORT ACQUISTION IN GHANA

Even has a citizen of Ghana to get hold of the passport its not a thing of joke, Ghanaians line up in queues everyday just to get into the passport office. At times people have to sleep at the passport office sometime to be early for the next day so as to get into the passport office, On a daily basis about 200 people are allowed entrance into the passport office. some people get rejected for providing wrong information or for not filling the portions correctly, longer hours are spent inside the passport office for officials to go through everybody forms. You are sent into a smaller office so as to take passport picture, for your fingers to be thumb printed and signature taken. After the necessary documentations a code is given to you, and a date issued with it for you to come collect your passport depending on the time you applied.

Sometimes if you are lucky after 2 weeks you get your passport, but the reverse is the case as most people wait for almost 2months, the story may defer depending on the applicant. Ghanaians get frustrated on a daily basis trying to get there passport, all you hear is come toady, come tomorrow, our machines are not working, ministry of foreign affairs have not given us books as widely referred to by Ghanaians or the books are short in the system.

A lot of pressure is on the Accra office of the passport, opposite the Tema station in Accra. GORRO BOYS as they are referred to make life unbearable for applicants, a lot of lies and fabrication goes on around the passport office making a lot of people loose money on a daily basis, for example they sell numbers to applicants who can get into the passport office for as much as 20gh cedi's or 40ghcedis. Sometimes they get involved in the processing of the passport itself by telling you to pay a certain amount with assurance that you will get the book at a supposed date.

Director Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, of the passport office has come out to say there are 6 centers around the country and the headquarters is not opened for applicants, so as a word of advice its more better you do it in one of this 6 centers so as to lessen pressure on the Accra office.

with just 3 printing machines to serve an every growing population like Ghana, its not advisable because all printing is done over here in Accra, we plead with government to do everything in their jurisdiction to help ease the pressure at the passport office and make sure deadlines are meet when its time for collection.
